Evening primrose (Oenothera biennis) is a vascular perennial herbaceous plant that grows in the wild.

It only opens its pretty flowers during the evening to invite moths and other insects to pollinate, hence the name. During the flowering period from June to August, the evening primrose sheds its flowers every morning only to grow new ones by nightfall.

The origins of the plant can be traced back to North-America, from where trading ships brought them to Europe around 350 years ago.

Its beneficial properties for the human body and medicinal usage were only documented later on.

The valuable oil is pressed from the tiny seeds, resulting in high production costs.

HOW TO USE
Evening primrose oil has a unique, easily distinguishable, tart taste. Having a spoonful each day can positively contribute to a healthy, balanced diet. It is also a great addition to salad dressings, smoothies, vegetable juices or sauces.

Evening primrose oil has many beneficial properties and can be used for any skin type, especially for aging or dry skin. The oil can be used directly on cleansed, wet skin, but it can also be mixed into your favourite moisturizer. The oil can regulate cell metabolism, balancing the skin’s natural moisture levels and thus contributing to regaining its flexibility.

Tip:
Evening primrose oil is best used cold. Do not heat the oil over 90 °C to guarantee maintaining its valuable ingredients.

Storage: Unopened it can be stored for 18 months in a cold, dry space protected from sunshine. The exact expiry date is displayed on the bottle. After opening, it is recommended to use it within 3-4 months, so that its valuable vitamins, trace elements and minerals do not lose their high quality. It is an unfiltered oil, so best to shake it up before consumption.
